Trump's Anthropic Ban: A Political Ploy to Stifle Innovation

Trump's order to ban government agencies from using Anthropic's AI tools? It's a pure comedy act. A blatant display of political interference crushing the technology ecosystem. The fact that government agencies were even considering using Anthropic, a company with the veneer of "ethical AI," is already questionable, but to ban them? Ostensibly for national security, but we all know what's really going on: favoring companies that toe the party line.

What did Anthropic do wrong? Develop LLM models and try to provide more accurate information using RAG technology? Please. To politicians, such "efforts" are an eyesore. Any technology they can't control is seen as a "threat."

The bigger issue is how this kind of "invisible hand" damages technological progress. If the government pressures agencies not to use a specific company's technology, what happens to other companies? Competition disappears, innovation grinds to a halt. Ultimately, the entire U.S. technology competitiveness suffers. It's like watching the Soviet Union all over again, where government control stifled technological progress.

Of course, "national security" is always a convenient excuse. But if you truly care about security, you need to maintain a healthy tech ecosystem and allow various companies to compete freely. Targeting specific companies is a self-inflicted wound in the long run.

Look at past examples. When governments have favored or suppressed specific technologies or companies, what were the results? Mostly failures. Technological progress has been fastest when respecting the free market and fostering a fair competitive environment.

For example, what if the government had tried to regulate IBM when it dominated the PC market? The PC market would probably look completely different today. Instead, clone PC manufacturers emerged, competition was stimulated, and PC prices decreased while performance increased.

Anthropic's technology isn't perfect. But at least it hasn't monopolized the market like OpenAI. Instead, it has encouraged various companies to develop LLM technology and compete to provide better services. Trump's decision is the worst possible choice, extinguishing the spark of competition.

This is just a political show. Will banning Anthropic solve any real problems? Absolutely not. It will only create bigger problems. Technological progress will stop, competition will disappear, and ultimately, the U.S. will fall behind in the tech arms race.

The conclusion is simple: Trump's decision is idiotic. It hinders technological progress, stifles competition, and ultimately harms the future of the entire United States. This ban should be withdrawn immediately. Only then will there be any hope left. Politicians, please keep your hands off technology. I wish you knew how much you're ruining.
